New Year starts with the EPL as Man Utd and Arsenal battle for first win in 2020
This festive period has been a busy period for the English Premier League as a whole and in English football both in the championship side and in the National League side. In the previous matchday week, VAR drama was involved in anfield showdown as Liverpool ease past Wolves in a 1-0 win at Anfield. Manchester United was on fire as Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford both fired the Red Devils past Burnley in a 2-0 win at Turf Moor. Chelsea’s late scintilating show at the Emirates Stadium was enough to secure them all three points against Arsenal as Mikel Arteta takes incharge of first match as Arsenal’s boss. Leicester City is still on fine form despite the trashing at the hands of Liverpool (4-0 defeat) at the King Power Stadium where they were still solid as they beats West Ham 2-1 at London Stadium though the team was without the league top scorer, Jamie Vardy (17 goals). Tottenham Hotspur’s 3 points addition was kept on hold as the newly promoted side, Norwich proves stubborn in a 2-2 draw at the Carrow Road.
A busy New Year schedule is here again as Manchester United will be travelling to the Emirates Stadium to play Arteta’s team after a painful late defeat from Chelsea on the 29th December, 2019. Manchester United are hoping to keep the fine form they had against the “Big 6” (2D, 3W) this EPL season. Manchester United will not be with Scott Mctominay as the fine young midfielder picked up an injury against Newcastle on Boxing day. The Gunners will be looking for all three points in other to contend for the top four position.
Chelsea and Burnley will be opening the New Year showdown as they will play Brighton & Hove Albion and Aston Villa respectively. Frank Lampard gave a surprise victory at the Emirates Stadium as they come from one goal behind to stun Arsenal on a late goal show. Frank Lampard’s side which is inconsistent will be looking to get all 3 points at the Falmers Stadium in other to increase the gap from 5th place manchester United.
Manchester City is set to end Carlo Ancelotti 100% start at the Goodison Park as the Toffees travels to the Etihad Stadium on New Year day. Manchester City who is not consistent was clinical as they ran riot against the newly promoted side, Sheffield United on 29th December, 2019. Everton collected all three point as they travel to St. James Park to beat Newcastle United in a 2-1 victory.
Jose Mourinho’s Spurs is travelling to St Mary’s Stadium to face Southampton as he sets a “must win” target for his london side. Jose Mourinho was heart-broken when he saw his team came from a goal behind twice at the Carrow Road last week and are ready to make amends. Tottenham will be set to eye all three points at Southampton in other to keep them in contention for the top four.
Brendan Rodgers’s side will be all-ready as they will travel to St. James Park for a fierce fight with Newcastle United after a disappointing display against Everton in their last EPL encounter. Leicester City will be all-set up as they will try to maintain their second position one point ahead of the champions, Manchester City.
