Wilder and Fury set for another rematch in July
Tyson Fury who came victorious in last month fight against world champion, Deontay Wilder will be in contention of the next leg of their fight trilogy in July, 2020 at the Las Vegas venue where their rematch previously held.
Deontay Wilder officially expressed his right to another boxing match against Tyson Fury and the idea is to have it on July 18 at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, United States media announced Sunday night.
“We received a letter from Wilder’s team on Friday night, and we agreed with the networks and the hotel that July 18 was the optimal date,” Bob Arum, a promoter told the Los Angeles Times newspaper.
“We had a seamless promotion last time with Al Haymon, PBC (Premier Boxing Champions) and Fox. We look forward to working with them again.”
The information comes over a week after gallant Britain’s Tyson Fury defeated Wilder in the seventh round of their previous heavyweight championship rematch in Las Vegas.
Despite scream for a combination fight between Tyson and fellow Briton Anthony Joshua, Wilder had been looked forward to make use of his contractual right for a rematch.
Deontay also disclosed this week that he would hold on to co-trainer Mark Breland in his corner, despite initial hints that he was prepared to seperate company with Breland, who flinged in the towel in the seventh round of the defeat to Tyson.
Breland, an ex Olympic and world champion, called a stop to the rematch at the MGM Grand Garden Arena after Deontay had been brought down two times by Tyson.
Tyson clinched the World Boxing Council heavyweight title from Deontay Wilder, just 14 months after the duo battled to a spectacular split-decision draw in their first match in Los Angeles.
