Stampede took over from General Qassem funeral as 35 people died and 48 injured
Iranians have started dying as hundreds and thousands of mourners were in attendance at the funeral of the late General Qassem Soleimani due to stampede occurrances at the funeral on Monday, January 6th, 2020.
Hundreds and thousands of Iranians has rushed to pay their last respect and to get a last glimpse of the coffin before he will be finally laid to rest as reported by state controlled Iranian TV on Tuesday.
The three day farewell which started on saturday and ended on monday turned into a chaos as hundreds of mourners were rushing to see his coffin at the same time leading to a stampede, which killed 35 mourners and leaving 48 injured and rushed to the hospital at Kerman, the home town of the late General.
Pirhossein Koulivand, who is the head of Iran’s emergency medical services, spoke by phone call to the state TV confirming the stampede that happened on Monday.
“Unfortunately as a result of the stampede, some of our compatriots have been injured and some have been killed during the funeral processions”.
